Sierra Kennels
"Hi there! My name's Babie. Do you want to come and play?"
Welcome to Sierra Kennels' web site. We are a Mother/Daughter hobby breeder enjoying God's masterpiece called the "Siberian Husky". Our goal is to breed and raise the best quality companions for show, racing and pets. It is our opinion that the Siberian Husky is the best all around canine companion available. All of our Husky friends are family socialized from the time they are born until they go to their new homes. We spoil them immeasurably. The Siberian Husky is not a guard dog. Please keep that in mind when deciding if the Siberian Husky is the right companion for you. Although, they may be intimidating in looks when they are running towards you, their goal is to kiss your whole face. They are very loving and friendly to all people. They also love to run, and run, and run. Be sure that you have plenty of room to ensure that can happen. The area also needs to be contained with at least a 6 foot fence. Once a husky is out, he will run long distances and this breed does not have the homing instinct. Your chances of finding him will be very slim. Because they have many traits about them that look like a wolf, there have been many that have been shot by mistake. Siberian Huskies (Sibes) are very energetic and do get bored, which is when they will dig and chew things up. A kiddy swimming pool is a good idea during the summer for cooling off and to keep digging down to a minimum. Please look up and learn all the information you can on Siberian Huskies before choosing one for your companion. There are too many of these beautiful animals that are being rescued and/or put down because individuals decided too late that the husky was not the dog for them. Look around and enjoy our web site. We have lots of pictures and we update regularly so that you can see how quickly each individual dog changes in color and stature. We enjoy our huskies and hope you will too. Occasionally we have puppies for sale. Check our Puppy page for information on available puppies. Our puppies come in a variety of colors such as black & white, gray & white, red & white, wolf gray & white, solid white and golden red & white. Most of our puppies tend to have a thick plush coat and come in a variety of patterns such as Irish Coat, Saddle Back, Splash Coat and Piebald. Should you have any questions concerning our huskies or our web site, please write, call or email us at the address below. Inquiries are always welcome.
Breeder’s Story
A Breeder (with a capital B) is one who thirsts for knowledge and never really knows it all, one who wrestles with decisions of conscience, convenience, and commitment.
A Breeder is one who sacrifices personal interests, finances, time, friendships, fancy furniture, and deep pile carpeting! She gives up the dreams of a long, luxurious cruise in favor of turning that all important show into this years "vacation".
The Breeder goes without sleep (but never without coffee or hot tea!) in hours spent planning a breeding or watching anxiously over the birth process, and afterwards, over every little sneeze, wiggle or cry.
The Breeder skips dinner parties because that litter is due or the babies have to be fed at eight. She disregards birth fluids and puts mouth to mouth to save a gasping newborn, literally blowing life into a tiny, helpless creature that may be the culmination of a lifetime of dreams.
A Breeders lap is a marvelous place where generations of proud and noble champions once snoozed.
A Breeders hands are strong and firm and often soiled, but ever so gentle and sensitive to the thrusts of a puppy's wet nose.
A Breeders back and knees are usually arthritic from stooping, bending, and sitting in the birthing box, but are strong enough to enable the breeder to show the next choice pup to a Championship.
A Breeders shoulders are stooped and often heaped with abuse from competitors, but they're wide enough to support the weight of a thousand defeats and frustrations.
A Breeders arms are always able to wield a mop, support an armful of puppies, or lend a helping hand to a newcomer.
A Breeders ears are wondrous things, sometimes red (from being talked about) or strangely shaped (from being pressed against a phone receiver), often deaf to criticism, yet always fine-tuned to the whimper of a sick puppy.
A Breeders eyes are blurred from pedigree research and sometimes blind to her own dog's faults, but they are ever so keen to the competitions faults and are always searching for the perfect specimen.
A Breeders brain is foggy on faces, but it can recall pedigrees faster than an IBM computer. It's so full of knowledge that sometimes it blows a fuse: it catalogues thousands of good boning, fine ears, and perfect heads... and buries in the soul the failures and the ones that didn't turn out.
The Breeders heart is often broken, but it beats strongly with hope everlasting...and it's always in the right place! Oh, yes, there are breeders, and then, there are...BREEDERS!
